Steven Nissenbaum, M.A., L.P.C. has been a psychotherapist and life coach in private practice since 1985, originally in Saint Louis, and currently in the Phoenix and Scottsdale metropolitan areas. He has extensive experience specializing in addiction, chemical dependency and codependency, the psychological rehabilitation of the injured athlete, along with expertise in dealing with issues such as life transition, infertility, relationship issues, chronic illness, and bereavement. Services include counseling and life coaching for both individuals and couples.

While practicing in Saint Louis as a founding partner of Clayton Consultants, he created and facilitated several innovative groups designed with the dual focus of being both educational and therapeutic. These psychoeducational support groups were designed to deal very specifically with 1. adult children of alcoholics issues, 2. men’s issues, 3. couples dealing with infertility, and 4. individual sexual orientation issues. In addition to his private practice, Mr. Nissenbaum was a consultant to The Edgewood Program at Saint John's Mercy Medical Center, one of the premier chemical dependency and codependency treatment facilities in the United States. He was also involved professionally with the HIV Clinical Trials Unit at Washington University and Saint Louis Effort for AIDS.

Mr. Nissenbaum relocated to the Valley of the Sun in 1995, where he is currently in private practice, credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners [LPC-1014]. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, American Mental Health Counselors Association, The American Fertility Association, International Society for Mental Health Online, and American Academy of Bereavement.

Mr. Nissenbaum brings a vast array of professional training and clinical experience to his work. He has completed extensive post-graduate training in Life Coaching, Gestalt Therapy, Transformational Fantasy Visualization and Guided Imagery, Mind-Body Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Emotional Release Therapy, in addition to ongoing professional development through various national workshops and conferences. He assists clients in areas such as increasing self-esteem and self-acceptance, recognizing and dealing with relationship intimacy and trust issues, healing unresolved emotional wounds, sports injury rehabilitation, gaining a deeper connection with the true self, coping with various types of loss and the resolution of unfinished grieving, learning to effectively deal with life transition, and the resolution of sexual orientation/gender conflict issues.

In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mr. Nissenbaum continues his longtime tradition of giving much of his time to various non-profit organizations. Those located in the Phoenix and Scottsdale metropolitan areas have included Actors Theatre of Phoenix [Board of Directors], Scottsdale Center for the Arts, Volunteers in Direct Aid, HIV Care Directions, AIDS Walk Arizona, the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation, and the Heard Museum.
